Codeword Whining

You know how a hot woman is called Chio-bu? Decided to make a contribution to the vernacular.

Henceforth, a hot man shall be called Chio-boy. This can be applied regardless of the ethinicity of the male in question.

As such, if i say someone is a CB, you cant be sure whether i am complimenting or complaining.

Linda E 4 Prada Whining

I like Prada.

I like Linda Evangelista.

I’ve always thot she has one of the most exotic definition-defying faces ever. With a classy-rolls-off-your-tongue surname.

However, i just cant comprehend the Autumn / Winter 08 Campaign for Prada featuring Linda E.

She looks like they grafted a stunned eagle’s face on to her neck.

Why? Oh why?

Seamless? Commenting

"More seamless transfers for commuters with new fare structure" scream the headlines.

Seamless means ’smoothly continuous or uniform in quality’.

Then you learn that it basically means those with transfers would pay less. Nothing to do with how transfers would be better aligned to make the journey more convenient.

If transfer based fares can cost up to 50% more than those on direct services for the same distance, then cutting cost is one issue but the question is why you have to end up transferring when a direct service should be doing the job. Or transfers should be such that you can easily get a train / bus for transfer without waiting too long, or having to miss overcrowded buses / trains.

And you learn that the other 60% who do not use transfers would probably be paying more.

Wow, some initiative that benefits 40% while disadvantaging 60% is something to really scream about.

Despite these figures, the restructuring should largely be ‘revenue-neutral’ to the operators.

Seriously, why is there so much emphasis on operators’ interest when the Public Transport Council should be focussed on the public’s interest? The way the PTC makes decisions, it sounds more like a board of directors for the operators than a council to safeguard the public’s interest. Don’t worry about the operators. With our version of ‘competition’ - which means one operator cannot operate in the other’s zone - the operators are totally safe.

You talk about getting people to switch to public transport and this is what you come up with? Purleez!

The purpose of singles Whining

A long time ago, i asked myself, "Why am i single?"

Some time back, i asked myself, "Why am i still single?"

As i was heading home tonight, i asked myself, "Why am i still asking myself why i am still single?"

As i reached home and turned on the tv, chanced upon a programme discussing the organ trade. One of the panelists said that in most cases, when a family member, esp a parent, needs an organ donation, the rest of the family tells the single one in the family to donate. Cos the rest have people in their lives and the single one is thus the best choice.

I most certainly hope that is not the reason i am single.

6 degrees of seperation Commenting

Thing about Facebook is that it leaves your life out in the open for one and all to browse. However hard you try to hide certain aspects of your life, there will be no skeletons left in the closet.

The interconnectedness of all the aspects of our lives - professional, family, frens, political, sexual, educational etc - are visible once just certain things are displayed on Facebook. You may not say you are "Interested in Men" but looking at all your frens who are topless, with their pics with known gay personalities, taken in gay clubs, just might be the hint.

And noone is safe. By truly understanding the intersections of all our lives, you can use one person’s Facebook to find out not just about them, but also people in their friends list or co-captured in their gloryfying pictures. Trust me, it aint that difficult.

Which is why the 4th of July was quite truly Independence Day for me. Finally came out to some colleagues. It wasnt due to any specific pressure but just that it was getting so tiring pretending and wondering if i would slip up sometime and inadvertently out myself. This was esp dumb since i actually wanted to be out. So, grabbing life by the balls, i did it.

Now, to gently ease the others on a need-to-know basis.

The new ’sorry’ Commenting

Looking at the statements in the media by political leaders, it seems they have decided that ‘let’s move on’ is the new ’sorry’. Whenever anything screws up, we may not hear an apology, but we will hear a ‘let’s move on’ or something along those lines.

I am also gearing up for the new ‘it’s my fault’, which is ‘it’s YOUR fault’. We are complacent, we need a dose of bad govt etc.

Guess the new mantra is "admit nothing, deny everything and make counter-accusations".
